About WiseBenefits
Free, plain-language tools that help Canadians with disabilities, and the people who support them, claim the benefits they're entitled to.
Why this exists
Some companies charge a share of the refund to help with a Disability Tax Credit application, and applying involves both personal and practitioner information. CRA does not charge an application fee; a practitioner may charge to complete the medical section. We explain the rules and point people toward free support.
What we do, and don't do
- We explain the rules for the Disability Tax Credit, the Canada Disability Benefit, RDSP grants and bonds, and CPP Disability, and we build tools that apply them.
- We don't fill out, review or submit anyone's application, and we don't act for anyone with CRA, Service Canada or the Social Security Tribunal.
- We do not charge for these tools or take a share of a refund or benefit. Nothing is currently for sale.
- Nothing here is legal, tax, financial or medical advice. For advice about your own situation, talk to a qualified professional or one of the free services listed on our home page.
How we check our facts
We work from canada.ca, CRA's forms and guides, and the statutes and regulations on the Justice Laws website. Each page lists its sources and the date we last checked them. Benefit amounts change every January or July, and we recheck them each year.
Where we estimate rather than calculate exactly, the tool says so. For example, the CPP Disability monthly amount is an estimate, because the real figure depends on your full contribution record.
Accessibility
Many people who use this site live with the conditions it's about, so we build for that from the start:
- Large body text in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed by the Braille Institute for readers with low vision, with serif headings.
- White backgrounds with dark text by default, with an optional dark background in the menu. Your display choice stays on your device. Links are underlined, and selections and results use text or shapes as well as colour.
- Labelled form controls, keyboard navigation and results headings that receive focus. The tax credit checker offers one question at a time or all questions together, with a review step.
- Large buttons and answer areas, no time limits, and no pop-ups.
If something doesn't work for you, email hello@wisebenefits.ca with the page and the problem. The inbox is checked at least weekly, and we fix accessibility problems first. For help with benefits or applications, use the free human help links.
Who publishes it
WiseBenefits is published by 1232216 B.C. Ltd., a company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. It is a sister site to WiseWill.ca, which does the same for wills and estates in BC. We are not a law firm, an accounting firm or a government service.
Corrections
Check the linked official source before relying on an amount or deadline. If you spot something wrong, email hello@wisebenefits.ca with the page and the problem. The inbox is checked at least weekly; we fix the page and update its date. Do not send personal case information.
How we're funded
The site is free, with no ads, affiliate links or paid placements. We may explore a book, pamphlet, guide, advertising or affiliate links in future, but nothing is for sale and no launch date or price is set. Email signup is closed.
